The Dune of Pilat

Just 30 minutes from the Heart of Arcachon Bay, set out to explore the highest dune in Europe (106m / 348ft) that stands out for the beauty and diversity of its environment. To climb it, you may take the stairs that are set up from Easter to All Saint’s Day, or face the challenge of reaching its peak with your feet directly in the sand. Once you arrive at the top, you’ll discover a magnificent panorama over Arcachon Bay and its forest.

The various districts of the town of Arcachon take you through the seasons: In the springtime, taste the mineral water of Abatilles in the town, and follow a guided tour of the natural spring and bottled water factory with the Arcachon Tourist Board. In the balmy summertime, stroll along the seaside and enjoy a swim. Set out to discover the L’Aiguillon district of the town and its colourful fishermen’s cabins in the autumn. Admire the opulent villas of the winter town, built in the 19th century on the “Dune of Arcachon”, during a walk, bike excursion or on the tourist train. –

The Cap Ferret lighthouse

To conquer a splendid 360° view over Arcachon Bay, just climb the 258 steps of the Lège-Cap-Ferret lighthouse. Breathe deeply as you go up, and then, once you arrive, enjoy a unique breathtaking view from Arcachon Bay to the Atlantic Ocean. Take the time to locate and admire the next spots that you’ll visit: oyster-producing villages, the Dune of Pilat, the tip of Lège Cap Ferret, pine forests and beaches. Teich Bird Reserve

At the heart of the Leyre Delta, set out on foot to discover the Réserve Ornithologique du Teich, where you may observe more than 300 species of birds. To help you stay discreet and blend into the setting, 20 observation huts are set up along 6km / 4mi. Avocets, water hens, grey herons, bluethroats and storks thus reveal themselves and you’ll be able to watch them as they go about their day. To optimise your observation, bring along binoculars or rent a pair at the entrance to the bird reserve; and remember to visit during high tide!

Ile aux Oiseaux and cabins on stilts

To set out to encounter the famous cabins on stilts that proudly stand in the middle of Arcachon Bay and to visit Ile aux Oiseaux, board one of the boats of the Union des Bateliers Arcachonnais in Arcachon. Once aboard, enjoy the ride and the surroundings as you listen to the skippers’ explanations as they let you in on the secrets of these exceptional nature conservation areas.
