Presentation
Since 1928, the area has had one of the largest kraft paper production units in Europe for the manufacture of corrugated cardboard packaging. Smurfit Kappa Cellulose du Pin employs 450 people and produces 500,000 tonnes of kraft per year from Landes pine and recycled paper and cardboard. This industrial site is part of a virtuous and sustainable circle of regional circular economy (green energy, regeneration of chemical products, sustainably managed forest). The packaging, created by Smurfit Kappa using Biganos paper, is a sustainable alternative to plastic packaging. Ongoing investments are modernizing the site to enable it to reach the highest European standards. Visit of the plant in July/August by registration only at the Coeur du Bassin Tourist Office. For group visits, please contact the factory.
